Last week, my book I ordered 201 crochet motifs, blocks, projects, and ideas, by Melody Griffiths, came in the mail. Monday I had a chance to start exploring it. Lots and lots of really fun, simple designs. There are so many blocks and flowers I want to try out. I started with a new skein of spring green wool and a single crochet stitch worked in a round/square pattern. I was looking for a tightly woven pattern, but something with some interest to get me back to making squares for the online group I belong to: Knit A Square. (It's crochet a square too, if you're like me and would rather crochet than knit).
The squares only measure about 3" in the book, but the directions also work to make a square of any size. So I made mine to measure 8" across for Knit A Square requirements. (The squares are sewn together by other volunteers and the finished afghans are then given to AIDS orphans in Africa).
Yesterday morning, I looked at the kitchen table still life I had inadvertently created the night before--spring green yarn, spring green bowl, spring green ruler. Last spring I even bought a spring green ruler... I forget till now every year how much I want to see spring green (somewhere, anywhere!) by the end of February. I'm catching myself driving down the road every day here, looking for that fine spring green mist on the willow trees. And every day, it's, well, maybe tomorrow...
In the meantime, I guess I'll think I'll have to settle for spring geen wool.
The daisies are a combination of two patterns in the book, and I made the leaf pattern myself to go with the daisies, because they needed leaves. And the squares needed daisies.... and leaves.
As soon as I figure out what to make with all the other daisies I couldn't stop making yesterday, I will write out the instructions so that you can make some spring too. (If you happen to crochet and live in a freakin' cold place like me and could use a picker-upper project). Also, if you ever wanted to learn to crochet, youtube has some great tutorials on beginning crochet. Just type in crochet-- it's worth a shot. Investment is very low, satisfaction can be quite high. Can't beat that in today's economy.
Back soon with further spring ideas, and less complaining about the snow. Which it is doing right now. Again. Today. (**sigh**) Maybe I should try making magic spring daisy wands to banish future snowstorms-- ha, ha:) Lots of love to you, Kelly

Good Morning Kelly!
The daisies are adorable! ooooh - love them! Everything you create is extra special though.

Kim

Very inspiring! I love the daisies with their leaves--would be a sweet little garland project, as well.
Hope the snow stops soon and spring is quickly on its way to you!

The spring green mist is coming, I promise!!! Hang in there. I saw robins fly north yesterday (maybe late this year, but on the wing.) Green fuzz to report now in FL as well.
